The long-awaited film by our renowned director is finally ready to be screened in front of the Belgrade audience at upcoming FEST. The shooting lasted for three years, the crew was intermittently filming for 50 weeks, 5000 extras were hired, and 800 explosions created... The legendary beauty Monica Bellucci, who plays the female lead in the film, attracted a lot of attention in Andrićgrad. Sloboda Mićalović, Predrag Miki Manojlović and Kusturica himself are also starring alongside Bellucci. This is Kusturica’s first leading role, even though he had previous acting experience.
The film is inspired by Kusturica’s segment from the omnibus “Words With Gods“, which was screened at the 43rd FEST. The story is devided into three parts and follows crucial periods in the life of one man and his country - a difficult period of war, a period of blossom, when he falls in love with a woman who is willing to sacrifise everything for him, and his last days as he looks back on his turbulent past. “This is the story of moral, faith and belief, which today represent forgotten categories“, said Kusturica.
The film had its premiereas an Official Selection Competition title at the Venice Film Festival where it received The Young Lion. It will be screened Out of Competition at the 45th FEST, which will last from the 24th of October to the 5th of March 2017.
