A Chilean producer and director Pablo Larrain introduced himself to the world last year with his two new films, both of which were inspired by actual historical events. The Belgrade audience had the opportunity to see the film Neruda during November at the Free Zone Film Festival. The program FEST45 Gala includes the long-awaited film Jackie, a moving biographical story of one of the most intriguing women in history.
Jacqueline Bouvier, Jackie Kennedy or Jackie Onassis is remembered by her refined sense of style and mysterious smile, and the brilliant Natalie Portman has been nominated for the Academy Award for her performance as the former First Lady. The famous Jackie has been portrayed by several actresses already, while her life story has been the subject of many documentaries and television dramas. What is interesting, however, is that the Larrain’s Jackie is the only one utterly dedicated to the impressive wife of the tragically deceased American president.
Larrain decided to make a film which chronicles the days after her husband’s assassination, an event remembered, inter alia, by the blood-stained pink suit. Special attention was paid to the costume, since Jackie was a fashion icon, a symbol of sophistication and poise. The entire project was initiated and produced by Natalie Portman’s collaborator of many years standing, the director Darren Aronofsky. Also starring alongside the famous American actress are Peter Sarsgaard and John Hurt.
