Jarmusch’s "Paterson" at FEST

Paterson, the latest film by the famous American director and one of the most important figures of American independent cinema, Jim Jarmusch, will be screened at this year’s FEST. Jarmusch, whose films the Belgrade audience had the opportunity to see many times, is best-known for films such as Night on Earth, Down by Law and Broken Flowers. Paterson is his first feature since 2013 and the film Only Lovers Left Alive, which was also screened at FEST 2014.

Paterson tells the story of the title character, who is a dreamer, a poet and a bus driver in the eponymous city (Paterson) in the United States. Paterson enjoys his daily routine of driving a bus and writing poetry into a notebook. By contrast, the world of his wife Laura is ever-changing. This somewhat unusual romance between the main characters as well as the unique Jarmusch’s sense of humor promise yet another experience his fans will enjoy. The viewers, who have never before had the opportunity to see his films, now have a chance to become familiar with his work.

Adam Driver, one of the most sought-after Hollywood actors of younger generation, plays the title role in the film. Jarmusch is known for his collaborations with renowned actors. He gives them roles untypical for them to play and brings out their maximum, showing us fantastic acting transformation such as Bill Murray’s in the film Broken Flowers.  Starring alongside Driver is a young and promising Iranian actress Golshifteh Farahani who is increasingly landing roles in Hollywood A production films.  The cast also includes a great number of cameo appearances, something Jarmusch is known for.
